AGU EC allocate events for 2021 _ Updated

DOHA (QAT) AGU Office: China will host next year’s Senior Asian ART, TRA and RG Championships between May-June following a decision taken at the Asian Gymnastics Union (AGU) online Executive Committee Meeting last Sunday.
The important outcome of the meeting included the allocation of various events for 2021, that was approved by the EC.

The 18th RG Junior Asian Championships will be postponed end of Septermber – beginning of October 2021
The Mongolian Federation will propose the new dates very soon.

The Mongolian capital will also organise the 6th Asian Gymnaestrada in October 2021 (From 14th to 17th).
Other events include the 7th AER Championships in Pattaya (Thailand) between August-September (the dates will be announced later by the LOC) and the 12th ACRO Championships for which AGU will announce the host country later.
Meanwhile, the AGU President Mr Abdulrahman Al Shathri stressed on the need to follow the medical guidelines as prescribed by the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) due to Covid-19 pandemic while hosting events.
“The coronavirus outbreak forced the cancellation or postponement of many sporting events in 2020. In this challenging time, the resumption of international competitions requires strict medical and social measures to mitigate the risks of COVID-19,” said the AGU President.
“With the situation of COVID-19 changing from day to day, the LOC may have to evolve their risk-mitigation measures.”
He also thanked the AGU TC Committees for their unstinted support in keeping the interest alive through various online programmes.
It must be recalled that AGU in its last EC Meeting in June decided to start a series of online seminars for all the disciplines with the WAG and RG webinars already conducted successfully.
“AGU created several online education programmes on our YouTube channel. We need to embrace technology and remain in sync with the changes,” added Mr Al Shathri.

With the pandemic disrupting sports activities globally since early this year, gymnastics too suffered a lot during this period and AGU had to postpone or cancel several important competitions this year.
However, the Asian body made good use of the technology and introduced several programmes that had already benefitted the judges and gymnasts.
