AGU mourns former AGU President Yokoyama’s death
Doha (Qatar), AGU Office: Former Asian Gymnastics Union (AGU) President Mr Shuji Yokoyama passed away in Tokyo on Saturday following a brief illness.
“The AGU mourns the death of Mr Yokohama, who was a pioneer in leading the Asian body,” said AGU President Abdulrahman Al Shathri.
Mr Yokoyama was elected as the AGU head for the first term at the Seventh AGU Congress in Tokyo, Japan, in 1991.
After completing the first term, he was re-elected to the post at the 8th AGU Congress in Hiroshima, Japan, in 1994 and completed the term till Torao Tokuda took over.
“We are saddened to hear the news. He was one of the leading lights of Asian gymnastics,” said AGU Technical Manager Anis Saoud.
