Asian Gymnastics Union Mourns the Passing of Rising Indonesian Gymnast Naufal Takdir Al Bari

It is with deep sadness that the Asian Gymnastics Union announces the passing of Indonesian gymnast Naufal Takdir Al Bari, who tragically lost his life at the age of 19 following a training accident in Penza, Russia.

According to reports, Naufal suffered a severe neck injury after a fall during practice on the horizontal bar. Despite receiving intensive medical care for 12 days, he was unable to recover from the complications.

Naufal was regarded as one of Indonesia’s most promising young gymnasts. He had been preparing to represent his country at the upcoming 2025 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships and was seen as a strong contender to qualify for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.

In a statement, the Indonesian Gymnastics Federation expressed its grief:

“Indonesian gymnastics has lost one of its brightest young talents. Naufal inspired others with his dedication and spirit, and his passing is a tremendous loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family in this difficult time.”

The Russian Gymnastics Federation has also confirmed that an internal review of the incident has been carried out, emphasizing that all procedures were followed and that support was provided to assist with the repatriation of the athlete’s body to Indonesia.

The Asian Gymnastics Union extends its heartfelt condolences to Naufal’s family, teammates, and the Indonesian gymnastics community. His passion and determination will be remembered, and his loss is a reminder of the importance of safety and care in training environments.
