Celebrating Asian Leadership: Watanabe Re-elected and Ali Al-Hitmi as First Vice-President at the 85th FIG Congress
DOHA (QAT), 25 October 2024: At the 85th FIG Congress in Doha, Mr. Morinari Watanabe (JPN) was re-elected as FIG President for a four-year term (2025-2028), securing 102 votes, or 65.38% of the vote. This re-election underscores Asia’s influential role within the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG).
First Vice-President
Mr. Ali Al-Hitmi (QAT) was elected as the FIG First Vice-President, marking a significant achievement for Qatar in international gymnastics.
Executive Committee
Ms. Zhou Qiurui (CHN), who led the vote count with 118 votes, was elected to the FIG Executive Committee as the top candidate. She is joined by Mr. Srayuth Patanasak (THA), providing valuable representation for the People’s Republic of China and Thailand.
FIG Council Members from Asia
Five representatives from the Asian Gymnastics Union (AGU) were elected to the FIG Council:
- Mr. Timur Abduvaliev (UZB)
- Mr. Saqer Almulla (KUW)
- Ms. Cynthia Norton Carrion (PHI)
- Ms. Danissa Duisengaliyeva (KAZ)

Mr. Jing Li (CHN) and Mr. Yoon Soo Han (KOR) were elected as the top two candidates for the positions of First and Second Vice-Presidents. - Women’s Artistic Gymnastics Technical Committee: Ms. Lyudmila Li (UZB)
- Rhythmic Gymnastics Technical Committee: Ms. Alua Bekturova (KAZ) and Ms. Gyozal Muminova (UZB)
