China Leads Individual Qualifications as Uzbekistan Tops Junior Group on Day 1 in Singapore
Singapore – May 18, 2025 The 19th Junior Asian Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships opened with energy and elegance at OCBC Arena, as young gymnasts from across the continent competed in the first day of qualifications.
In the individual category, routines in hoop and ball marked the beginning of the All-Around race. China’s Wang Qi delivered a standout performance that placed her at the top of the provisional rankings, combining poise and difficulty with ease.
One of the day’s most memorable routines came from Kuwait’s Layan Behbehani, who impressed judges with her expressiveness and strong technique — placing her among the top contenders heading into Day 2.
Strong showings also came from Kazakhstan’s Akmaral Yerekesheva and Uzbekistan’s Viktoriya Nikiforova, who stood out in ball and hoop respectively. With clubs and ribbon still to come tomorrow, the All-Around title remains wide open.
In the Junior Group competition, Uzbekistan stole the spotlight with a strong routine that earned them first place in qualifications with a score of 21.800, just ahead of Kazakhstan (21.100) and Malaysia (20.350). Thailand and Korea followed closely, rounding out the top five.
With the final day of qualifications ahead, all eyes are on the rising stars of Asia as they push toward finals and podium finishes.
