Deng overcomes Nonomura in battle of rings
JAKARTA, Indonesia: China continued their domination in artistic gymnastics after they bagged six out of 15 medals on offer in the individual apparatus finals at the Asian Games at Jakarta International Expo here on Thursday.
Though they opened the with a bronze medal in men’s floor, the Chinese didn’t lose heart and hope as they proved outstanding in the rings thanks to Deng Shudi.
Deng, bronze medalist at the 2016 Rio Olympics, found himself in tight competition with Japan’s Shogo Nonomura, whose score in the final was only 0.1 points short of the Chinese (14.700).
China’s upcoming star Liu Tingting. 17, had a tough battle in the women’s uneven bars against compatriot Lui Huan and North Korea’s Jang Mi-Jon, whose score was only 0.4 points less than that of the former’s 14.600.
Zou Jingyuan earned a silver in the men’s pommel horse while compatriot Sun Wei took the bronze while the men’s All-Around champion Lin Chaopan took the bronze in floor, which was won by South Korea’s Kim Han Sol.
