Gymnasiade Doha 07-12/12/2009 – MAG Team & All-Around Finals

Sergio-Sasaki-BRAUkraine claimed the team victory while Sergio Sasaki (Brazil) won the all-around title at the Doha Gymnasiade, which began Tuesday in Qatar.
Fifteen-year-old Oleg Stepko led Ukraine to victory over Spain and England, in a field of 19 teams.
Sasaki topped fellow 17-year-old Fabian Gonzalez (Spain), 85.40-82.85. Stepko finished third (82.30).
A member of Brazil’s 2009 world championships team, Sasaki won four gold medals at the Junior Pan American Championships, held in November in Brazil.
The Doha Gymnasiade features more than 2,000 athletes competing in athletics, swimming and both artistic and rhythmic gymnastics. The gymnastics competition is for females born 1993-1996 and males born 1992-1995.
The competition is being held at the Aspire Arena, site of the 2006 Asian Games and 2008 and 2009 Doha World Cups.
Competition continues Wednesday with the women’s team and all-around. Russia’s Tatiana Nabiyeva and Aliya Mustafina, who finished 1-2 at the 2008 Junior European Championships, headline the field.
