Gymnasiade Doha 2009 – First Day Apparatus Finals

Doha – Qatar December 11, 2009: Russian gymnasts added three more gold medals to their haul in the first day of event finals at the 2009 Gymnasiade in Doha, Qatar.
2009 Russian national champion Aliya Mustafina won uneven bars title, her third gold medal of the competition. The 15-year-old Muscovite won the all-around title and a gold with the team Wednesday in Doha.
Teammate Tatiana Nabiyeva, second all-around Wednesday, won the gold medal on vault over Mustafina. Nabiyeva picked up another medal on uneven bars, finishing third behind Natalia Kononenko of Ukraine.
In the men’s competition, all-around champion Sergio Sasaki (Brazil) won floor exercise and tied for the high bar title with Russia’s Viktor Cherepanov.
Taiwan won two medals on pommel horse, with Chung KaiYu taking the gold and teammate Chen Hsiang placing third behind England’s Frank Baines.
The 2009 Gymnasiade features more than 2,000 athletes competing in athletics, swimming and artistics and rhythmic gymnastics.
