Japan’s Oka Shinnosuke Strikes Gold in Men’s Horizontal Bar at Paris 2024
Paris, 5 August 2024 — In a spectacular display of skill and determination, Japan’s Oka Shinnosuke has secured gold in the men’s horizontal bar final at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. With a stellar score of 14.533, Oka adds this triumph to his impressive haul of medals at these Games, including golds in the all-around and team events, and a bronze on the pommel horse. His remarkable achievement makes him the first male gymnast since the Sydney 2000 Olympics to earn four medals in a single competition.
Oka, who competed just hours after winning bronze on the parallel bars, expressed his surprise and elation. “I didn’t really expect to win a gold medal on the horizontal bar,” he said, visibly thrilled. “My favourite one is of course the gold medal in the team final, because that’s what we’ve been working so hard for. It’s a collective result.”
Chinese Taipei’s Tang Chia-Hung and the People’s Republic of China’s Zhang Boheng both achieved a score of 13.966, earning bronze. For Tang, this medal is especially significant as it marks Chinese Taipei’s first-ever medal in this event.
