People’s Republic of China Clinches Rhythmic Gymnastics Group Title at Paris 2024
PARIS , 10 August 2024 :The Paris 2024 Olympic Rhythmic Gymnastics competition culminated in a thrilling finale at the Porte de la Chapelle Arena on Saturday. The event witnessed intense competition as eight finalists took to the carpet, each vying for the prestigious Olympic title.
France set the tone with their enchanting 5 Hoops routine, receiving an enthusiastic response from the home crowd. However, it was the People’s Republic of China who ultimately stole the show, taking an unassailable lead at the halfway stage with a score of 36.950. Their performance was marked by imaginative acrobatic elements, skillful exchanges of the 5 Hoops, and captivating changes in tempo with the music.
The Chinese group further solidified their lead with a graceful and stylish 3 Ribbons and 2 Balls routine, performed to music that beautifully reflected their cultural heritage. With a score of 32.850 in this routine, their total reached an impressive 69.800, securing the Olympic title.
This historic victory marks the first-ever Rhythmic Gymnastics Group Olympic gold medal for the People’s Republic of China, surpassing their previous best result of a silver medal at the Beijing 2008 Olympics. The triumphant group members—Ding Xinyi, Guo Qiqi, Hao Ting, Huang Zhangjiayang, and Wang Lanjing—have etched their names in history with this remarkable achievement.
“We have been looking for this moment for a long time,” said the group’s coach, Dan Sun. “As it’s Rhythmic Gymnastics, art has no frontiers. In this discipline, we should be inspired by the richness of all cultures, and we wanted to showcase the Chinese style. Here we have an association of art and sport, and I’m so happy because after so many years of effort, we finally have a good result.”
