Second Aerobic Gymnastics Asian Championships 2010
Doha (QAT) / AGU Office, December 22, 2010: Vietnam and its capital Ho Chi Minh were the backdrop for the second edition of the Asian Championships in Aerobic Gymnastics from December 15 – 18, 2010. The event carries significant weight on the Asian Gymnastics Union (AGU) calendar.
AGU give a big interest to the Aerobic Gymnastics which is a top-level competition sport is not popular in the whole Asian continent and we made a big effort for promotion of this discipline. Hosting for the second time this event is a big occasion to promote and develop this discipline.
Eleven countries from the zone took part, among them Sri Lanka, who participates for the first time at this level, Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, Japan, the Islamic Republic of Iran, India, the Philippines, Korea and host country Vietnam. The Union counts 14 countries having integrated Aerobic into their activities, proof of major progress on the continent.
With the closing dinner, an opportunity for delegations and volunteers to flaunt their talent as singers and dancers in friendship and cultural diversity. Many thanks to the Vietnamese Gymnastics Federation and the AGU for this second and very successful edition of the Asian Championships.
Strong participation was hailed by FIG Technical Committee President Mireille Ganzin of France, present in Ho Chi Minh City to support the development of Aerobic in Asia. At her side, Vice-President Tammy Yagi-Kitagawa (JPN), also President of the Technical Committee for the AGU and its members, who together with Ganzin furthered contact with the host federation in the hopes of organising a 2012 world championship event.
A possible host city is currently being looked into, with Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi among the candidates.
