Uzbekistan’s Azimov Earns Spot in Paris 2024 Olympics
Tashkent, Uzbekistan, 17 May 2024 – Uzbekistan’s Abdulla Azimov has secured a spot in the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics following a stellar performance at the Asian Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Tashkent. On the first day of the competition, Azimov achieved a score of 82.431 points in the all-around singles program, placing third overall.
Despite finishing third, Azimov qualified for the Olympics because the top two finishers, Carlos Yulo from the Philippines and Milad Karimi from Kazakhstan, had already earned their Olympic spots. This opened the door for Azimov, the highest-scoring unqualified athlete, to claim his ticket to Paris.
This qualification marks a historic achievement for Uzbekistan’s men’s artistic gymnastics team, which has, for the first time, earned three Olympic spots. The final standings for the competition were:
1. Carlos Yulo (PHI) – 85,298
2. Milad Karimi (KAZ)- 84.632
3. Abdulla Azimov (UZB)- 82.431
4. Yin Dehang (CHN)- 82.063
5. Utkirbek Juraev (UZB) – 81,899
Azimov’s qualification is a significant milestone, highlighting his dedication and talent, as well as the growth of gymnastics in Uzbekistan. With this achievement, the nation looks forward to being well-represented in the upcoming Paris 2024 Summer Olympics.
