Malaysia’s rhythmic gymnast Rayna hopes to do well in future
Doha (Qatar), AGU Office: Malaysian youngster Rayna Hoh Khai Ling expressed disappointment after she finished third in individual all-around at the 16th Junior & 10th Senior RG Asian Championships (YOG) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, last week.
The competition was held under the aegis of Asian Gymnastics Union.
“I could have finished higher, but committed an error when I threw the club. I was not fast enough to catch it and ended up dropping it,” said the student of Convent Bukit Nanas.
The 15-year-old underlined her potential as the country’s next rhythmic gymnastics sensation.
Her effort earned 54.550 points, but it was behind Uzbekistan’s Ekaterina Fetisova (57.000) and compatriot Lola Zakirova (55.650).
“I’m not complaining, the mistake can’t be undone. I’m not thinking about the medals in this competition as my target in this competition is to perform well,” said Rayna. “The competition is tough with gymnasts from Japan and the central Asian countries.”
The Malaysian senior team represented by Koh Jei Yi, Chan Mei Thung, Nur Naieme Zainul Ariffin, Rachel Cheng, Tee Wei Wen and Shak Yuki collected a total of 16.200 points won the bronze in the group exercise (five hoops) final.
Japan (17.750) claimed the gold followed by Kazakhstan (16.750).
