AGU President praises Hangzhou Asian Games facilities

DOHA (QAT) AGU Office: The Asian Gymnastics Union (AGU) President Mr Abdulrahman Al Shathri recently attended the first meeting of the 2022 Asian Games Coordination Committee Meeting (AGCCM) in the Chinese city of Hangzhou.
The continental Games will be held from September 10-25.
“It was a great honour for me and AGU to be invited to attend the AGCCM,” said Mr Abdulrahman. “The preparation is excellent and I think the city will be ready for the Games on time.”
The venue facilities are divided into four categories — new, continuous, renovation and upgrading. The first batch of 52 competition venues, including 33 in Hangzhou, and 19 in Hangzhou and provincial units, are divided into three categories — new, continuous and upgrading, according to a report published on the Organising Committee website.
All venues are focusing on green, low-carbon, energy-saving, environmental protection and sustainable use in its design and construction.
“Hangzhou is a beautiful and clean city. It boasts of a history of more than 2,200 years, and is one of the seven ancient capitals of China. It is also the provincial capital of Zhejiang Province and the center of economy, culture and science and education,” he added.
Ningbo, Shaoxing and Huzhou will also be the part of competition venues. The Games also enhanced the construction of several railways in the city, and shorten the travel to one and half hours.
But the AGU President said that the only issue is the event’s proximity with 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
“The football World cup will be held in November and the entire world will focus on the FIFA event, but I strongly feel that Hangzhou will host one the best Asian Games,” said Mr Abdulrahman.
