King Kohei is Longines Ambassador for Elegance
Doha (Qatar), AGU Office: Japan’s double Olympic champion Kohei Uchimura, whose six consecutive World All-around titles constitute an unprecedented feat in the sport, is the Longines’ newest Ambassador for Elegance.
Nicknamed ‘King Kohei’, the super star of modern artistic gymnastics, however, failed to retain the world all-around title after he bowed out at this year’s World Championships in Montreal, Canada, last month due to injury.
His performances on the floor has given the reigning Olympic champion a place of pride among his contemporaries.
Longines has always held him high for his top-notch performances at the three consecutive Worlds in 2011, 2013 and 2014 respectively and, no wonder its special jury selected him to receive its prestigious Prize for Elegance.
The 28-year-old’s absence at the last month’s FIG World Championships did take the sheen off the competition, but the Asians wrapped up all the medals, with Uchimura’s compatriot Kenzo Shirai winning the bronze while China’s Xiao Ruoteng and Lin Chaopan won the gold and silver respectively.
