4th Asian Senior, Junior Trampoline Championships starts in Manila
Doha (Qatar), AGU Office: The 4th Asian Senior and Junior Trampoline Championships started at the University of Makati Gym, Philippines, on Saturday.
The two-day competition, organized by the Gymnastics Association of the Philippines (GAP) and is supported by the Philippine Sports Commission, the Tourism Promotions Board, and the Makati City government, is the Asian qualifying tournament for this year’s Youth Olympic Games.
The tournament, which is held under the aegis of Asian Gymnastics Union (AGU), feature 100 athletes from 10 countries.
“We are delighted to host this event and would like to thank the AGU for allowing us to conduct this competition featuring the best trampoline athletes in Asia,” said GAP President Cynthia Carrion.
China, Hong Kong, India, Iran, Japan, Kazakhstan, North Korea, Uzbekistan, Vietnam and the Philippines are the teams participating.
“We wish best wishes to GAP for organising the event. We hope to see the best trampoline athletes, which is also one way of promoting and popularising this fast-growing sport,” said AGU President Abdulrahman Al Shathri.
Asian juniors will also serve as a qualifying event for the 3rd Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in October.
