AGU Shines with Cultural Unity at the World Gymnaestrada in Amsterdam
Amsterdam, 30 July,2023 – The Asian Gymnastics Union (AGU) is making a remarkable at the World Gymnaestrada in Amsterdam. Showcasing diverse gymnastic styles from Asian nations, the AGU’s performances add cultural richness and unity to the global event.
AGU President Abdulrahman Alshathri expresses excitement, stating, “Our participation in the World Gymnaestrada is a testament to the power of unity through gymnastics. It is an honor to showcase the incredible talent and culture of Asian gymnasts on this global stage.”
With nearly 19,000 participants from 60 countries, This 17th edition of the World Gymnaestrada holds special significance as it marks the 70th anniversary of the event and the second time it is being hosted in Amsterdam. The organizing committee, led by President Manon Crijns, has worked diligently to create a memorable experience for gymnasts and spectators alike.
The World Gymnaestrada’s objectives include:
• Promoting the value and diversity of Gymnastics.
• Encouraging the growth of Gymnastics for All worldwide.
• Providing incentives for meaningful work within FIG-affiliated federations.
• Inspiring enjoyment in exercise and encouraging personal activity.
• Demonstrating the unlimited possibilities of different ideas of Gymnastics for All.
• Presenting the most recent findings and developments.
• Bringing together gymnasts from all over the world as a contribution towards the friendship of nations.
• Presenting the diversity of Gymnastics to a wider public.
• Offer an interesting and exciting event in Gymnastics for the participants and the audience.
What is on the programme?
Between the Opening Ceremony on Sunday 30 July and the Closing Ceremony on Saturday 5 August, there will be around 300 hours of performances on the official programme. These will include over 750 Group Performances, more than 280 City Performances, 35 Large Group Performances, nine National Performances and three presentations of the FIG Gala.
